What Grav Is, and What It Is Not

A bright public city scene beside a small warm circle of people around a table, separated by a purple line

Grav is a private social network built around a simple idea: the people in your life should not have to compete with strangers, advertisers, and an engagement system to reach you.

Grav is a home for the social life you already have

A Feed is a room you create for a real group of people. It might be your family, closest friends, church group, coworkers, parents from school, or the friends who only send memes. You decide who belongs in each room. A post made for one Feed stays with that Feed unless you choose to move or share it.

That structure matters because relationships are not one giant audience. The person you are with family is not exactly the person you are at work, and neither one is fake. Healthy context is what lets both versions be honest.

Grav is private, but it is not antisocial

Private does not mean hidden from the world. It means the audience is known. Grav can include public Channels for creators, podcasters, organizations, and small businesses. You choose which Channels to follow, and their posts can become part of your Feed experience. They do not buy their way into your private rooms.

Grav is not asking anyone to disappear from public life. Use public networks for public work, discovery, and broad conversation if they serve you. Grav is the other half: the place where you do not need to perform for everybody at once.

Grav is not an engagement machine

We do not rank your private feed to keep you scrolling. We do not measure the worth of a relationship by how often it produces clicks. We do not sell access to your attention, and we do not insert advertising into the spaces you created for people you know.

That also means Grav is not built around outrage, political identity, or a side in the culture war. Families, friends, coworkers, churches, creators, and businesses contain people with different beliefs. The product should help those people stay connected without turning every room into a debate stage.

Grav is not free at any cost

A free account can create one Feed. Grav+ supports unlimited Feeds and additional tools for people who want more. Direct support also helps us build independently. The point is not to lock privacy behind a paywall. The point is to pay for the service without selling the people using it.

Our test for every decision

When we consider a feature, the question is not whether it can increase time spent. The questions are whether it helps people share more honestly, understand who can see something, protect a boundary, or stay close to someone who matters.

If a feature needs hidden tracking, an unclear audience, or manufactured pressure to work, it does not belong in Grav. That is the position. The product will keep growing, but that line should not move.
