Private social products sometimes treat every public voice as a threat. Public platforms often make the opposite mistake and turn every relationship into an audience that can be sold. Grav is building a middle path.
Channels are invited into a person's experience
A Channel gives a creator, podcaster, church, organization, influencer, or small business a place to publish for people who want to hear from them. Members can find Channels in Discover and choose whether to follow. That choice is the boundary.
A Channel cannot buy placement inside a private Feed. It cannot target a family group because the people in it fit a demographic. It cannot turn a private conversation into an advertising signal. Following a Channel should feel like subscribing to a voice, not consenting to surveillance.
Public does not have to mean extractive
Creators and businesses need public tools. They need a stable identity, useful publishing formats, and a way for interested people to find them. None of that requires a behavioral advertising system.
Grav Channels can support posts, long-form articles, podcast episodes, events, announcements, and other useful formats. The relationship remains direct: the Channel publishes, the member chooses, and Grav delivers.
There is no promise of manufactured reach
We do not want to sell the idea that every post deserves unlimited distribution. A Channel can earn trust, make work people value, and grow through real recommendations. What it cannot do is pay Grav to disguise an advertisement as a friend's update.
This protects members, but it also protects creators. An audience built on explicit interest is smaller than an audience produced by a viral spike, yet it is easier to understand. A follower chose to be there. The creator does not have to keep escalating every post to reach the same people again.
Small businesses belong here too
A local restaurant, maker, photographer, or shop should be able to share news without becoming an ad buyer first. People already build relationships with the businesses they return to. A Channel can hold that relationship without inserting the business into unrelated private spaces.
This is especially important for independent organizations that cannot win a bidding war for attention. Grav should give them a clear publishing tool, not another opaque score to chase.
The line we intend to hold
Private Feeds are for invited groups. Public Channels are for opt-in publishing. Discover helps people make a choice. Ads do not override that choice. Data from private spaces does not become a targeting profile.
Those parts can coexist because their roles are explicit. Grav is not against creators or businesses. We are against making private attention available to whoever pays most.
